H&M plans to start recycling of used clothes next year

Karl-Johan Persson, current chief executive of H&M, stated that they are looking forward to the implementation of the Global Apparel Recycling Program and that their desire for sustainable development comes from their commitment to society and the environment. That is, they want to do something that is good for the environment. For this reason, they are committed to providing customers with a convenient and quick solution: to put used or damaged clothing to the H&M store. ”

Beginning next February in 2013, H&M will become the world’s first fashion company to launch a global recycling program. Through such a global plan, H&M's customers can save natural resources by reducing textile waste, while contributing to the protection of the environment. Accept any type, any brand, and any fine clothes. In return, customers can get a 15% discount coupon for every one bag of clothing they submit (see the store announcement for details). The recycled clothing will be processed by H&M's partner I:Collect. I:Collect can reprocess consumer products to meet new uses.

It is reported that numerous textiles and household waste are discarded each year and eventually sent to landfills. As many as 95% of the clothes can be reused, depending on their condition, they can be re-applied, reused or recycled.

In the long run, H&M hopes to reduce the environmental impact of clothing throughout its life cycle and fully recycle textile fibers. H&M stated that the goal is to find a solution to the technical difficulties of recycling textile fibers in a wider range. For this reason, H&M has specifically established the Conscious Foundation to support textile recycling and other innovative projects that are compliant with the H&M value system.
